I just picked a picture randomly, and tried to understand the meaning of the comic. “I forgot. If I have an adverse reaction, do I call my doctor or my lawyer?” It is a man holding a bottle of medicine, and standing in front of a mirror in the bathroom. It seems like a really normal life of a person. However, I come up with some questions:
Why does this man need to take medicine?
What would the lawyer say if he calls his lawyer?
What would I do if I were this man?
What does the author wants to imply or satirize with this comic?
In this society, how important are doctors and lawyers?
This comic is funny because it is something happen commonly in our life. This picture describes a man holding a bottle of medicine and standing in front of a mirror in the bathroom. He is thinking if he should call his doctor or his lawyer. I don’t know why he wants to call his lawyer. I don’t think the lawyer would know about medicine. The lawyer would probably say: ” Mr, I’m a lawyer. I don’t have a MD. You should call your doctor. If your doctor prescribe some medicine that cause you some adverse reaction, you can definitely call me to sue him.”
It’s interesting. The doctors and lawyers are always very important in this society for any countries. They are both hard job to study. But it seems like the author makes fun of the two jobs. He implies people always think doctors and lawyers can do anything. That’s why many parents want their kids to be doctors or lawyers. Actually they deserve the salary they are getting paid now. But everything is the same. If your level is not high enough to be a doctor or lawyer, you are not going to earn much money.
I hope I can make my life that clear.
